‘Tình Yêu Tuyệt Vời’ is an experimental video and illustration project. It looks at the first indie rock band in Saigon during the 1960s, called CBC Band, and regards them as a key subject matter in addressing second-generation Vietnamese immigrants aged between 14-24 years old, and the challenges they often experience relating to conflicts within themselves (self-identity) and in their family relationships, due to the complex cultural background and context of their parents. These challenges can lead to mental health issues.
The project aims to fulfill these individuals as rock fans by creating an experimental video that could be shown at a certain rock concert. The video will serve as art therapy through experimental and abstract visuals, using collage and mixed media techniques that reference internet art. This experimental piece attempts to showcase the interrelationship between technology and art, utilizing both 3D and 2D techniques. The target audience, characterized by freedom and rebellion, faces the complex situation of trying to sustain Vietnamese culture while adapting to American culture. Therefore, this project will showcase the aesthetic values through psychedelic and distorted imagery, and visually combined elements of Western and Eastern culture.
